How to Play G7 on the Guitar (Free Video Lesson)

The G7 chord is pretty easy to play on the guitar and produces a "jazzy" or "bluesy" sound. This beginner version is in the open position and gives you some variety if you are used to practicing only major and minor chords.

Take your time when practicing this chord and see if you can have all of the notes sound clean. Becoming comfortable with the natural major, minor and 7th chords will give you a strong musical vocabulary that can be used to create and play songs you enjoy!



How to Play G7 on the Guitar:
  • Place Your Left Index Finger on the 1st String, 1st Fret
  • Place Your Left Middle Finger on the 5th String, 2nd Fret
  • Place Your Left Ring Finger on the 6th String, 3rd Fret
  • Strings 4, 3 and 2 are used in this G7 Chord, but are not fretted - they are called open strings
