Awesome Chord: Em9 [0 2 4 0 3 0]

Em9 is another awesome sounding guitar chord! I first discovered this type of sound listening to an acoustic album of Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds. I'm not sure of the specific song, but I think I may first heard this Em9 chord listening to #41. In any case, it has a mysterious feel to it and I love that the below version can be played without having to barre the chord, which is definitely helpful for beginners.

So grab your guitar, check out the below video, and have a go at Em9!

How to Play Em9 on the Guitar:
  • Place Your Left Index Finger on the 5th String, 2nd Fret
  • Place Your Left Middle Finger on the 2nd String, 3rd Fret
  • Place Your Left Ring Finger on the 4th String, 4th Fret
  • Strings 1, 3 and 6 are used in this Em9 chord, but are not fretted - they are called open strings
